Thanks John, that is a really fascinating web site, I have just spent the best part of a day immersed in engrossing discussions of ancient copper routes and the difficulties of sea travel around the welsh headland. I’m still none the wiser as to the historical evidence for water transport of the stones but it has been an enjoyable digress. You mentioned a discussion on lug sail and Dow rigged boats, do you have any idea what sort of boats the trade routes between Ireland and Wales relied on. I had no knowledge of the copper trade always assumed any crossing of the Irish seas were saints in coracles. Also I presume it’s not line of sight sailing and must of had some sort of navigation aid, do you have any idea how it was done.
